KUALA LUMPUR: The marital status of celebrity couple Uqasha Senrose and Kamal Adli has been thrown into question after it was revealed that the actress has filed for divorce.
Sources indicate that Uqasha, full name Nik Zaris Uqasha Nik Sen, 33, submitted a divorce petition against her actor husband, Kamal Adli, 39, at the Kuala Lumpur Lower Syariah Court on Oct 1.
She was reportedly scheduled to appear in court today for the first mention of the divorce proceedings.
The news confirms mounting speculation surrounding the popular pair's relationship, which has reportedly been troubled since April.
A source close to the couple told Utusan Malaysia that the breakdown was not due to a third party.
Crucially, the source confirmed that the couple are now living separately, with Uqasha residing at her mother's home.
The couple, who married in Janda Baik, Pahang, on Nov 5, 2021, share one daughter, Hawra Uqaira.
Rumours of a rift had been circulating for some time, fuelled by cryptic social media posts from Uqasha that sparked intense online discussion among netizens.
Further speculation arose when it was noted that both Uqasha and Kamal had unfollowed each other's accounts on Instagram.
Although Kamal previously denied any issues, insisting their relationship was "fine," the latest developments contradict his statement.
The actress also reignited the gossip mill recently when she uploaded a post on Instagram Story featuring herself with their daughter, Hawra Uqaira, who was unwell with a cough and fever.
The sharing of this moment was interpreted by many as suggesting she was now caring for the child alone.
When approached by the press at the MeleTOP programme last night, Uqasha, who looked radiant in a pale yellow ensemble, chose to keep a dignified silence.
Despite repeated questions, the actress, known for films such as Munajjim: Sekutu Iblis, offered only a brief comment before avoiding further interaction with the waiting media outside the studio.
"I'm perfectly fine," she told Kosmo! Online.
"I just don't want to be interviewed because I have a sore throat."
