PKR congress: ‘You picked the wrong PM’, Anwar tells his detractors

SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim vowed that his administration will continue fighting corruption as well as warned detractors that it would not be easy to shake him.

The PKR president said this in his speech at his party’s special national congress here as he lambasted his detractors.

He said that the attempts to topple his government as well as threats with gatherings and corruption probes would not work with him.

“You have picked the wrong prime minister,” said Anwar.

He added that he was not one to succumb to such threats.

“You want to try to seize power? Go ahead. But it will not be easy,” said Anwar.

Anwar also, without revealing any names, called out to former leaders who had squandered the nation’s wealth and made their families rich when they were in power.

He also said although his government upheld Malay and bumiputra privileges and the sanctity of the Malay Rulers, it will also uphold the rights of all Malaysians.

“We have to save the nation and we have to save it with the strength of the voice of the people,” said Anwar adding that as part of the country’s democratic system, the unity government was to respect the voice of the majority.

Anwar said in the four months the nation was run by the unity government, not once was there a compromise of PKR’s principles and idealism.

The Prime Minister also said that he was confident that the unity government would successfully serve out its five-year term.

Almost 1,500 people made of party members from PKR various divisions, part top leaders, observers and representatives of foreign missions attended the event held at the Malawati Stadium here.

Dubbed “Malaysia Madani, Pelaksanaan Sebuah Idealisme”, (Malaysia Madani, the implementation of an idealism) was also the maiden time Anwar addressed his party members in a gathering after assuming office as prime minister.
