Budi Madani: Restored RON95 quota, higher diesel allocation bring relief to motorists, traders

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — The government’s decision to restore the assistance quota under the Budi Madani programme for RON95 petrol and increase the diesel quota has been well received by various layers of society and traders, considering it a timely step in alleviating the burden of living costs.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 2026 National Day “Amanat Perdana” address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) yesterday.

In the address, he announced that the basic eligibility quota for RON95 petrol subsidies would be increased from 200 litres to 300 litres, while the Budi Diesel quota would be raised from 300 litres to 400 litres, effective today.

On average, beneficiaries stated that the return of the quota provided relief, especially in terms of monthly finances, and allowed expenses to be allocated to other basic needs.

Private sector worker, Furzani Ahmad, 24, said that the return of this quota contributed tremendously towards his commute to work.

For me, with this Budi 95, I can save a little on my monthly expenses. Almost every day, the distance I have to travel is almost 30 kilometres (km), so 300 litres is enough for a month, and sometimes there could even be surplus,” he said when met by Bernama.

Also sharing the same view, Darwisy Khairudin, 23, was happy with the government’s decision to restore the Budi 95 quota.

“The distance from my workplace to my home is only about 20 km to 25 km, but sometimes I have outside assignments, so I have to calculate whether the fuel quota is enough or not. Therefore, it’s really good that the government has reinstated this quota,” Darwisy said.

Meanwhile, fruit stall operator Abdul Manan, 63, who uses a diesel vehicle to transport his supplies, described the increase in the Budi Diesel quota as helping to stabilise his daily operating costs.

He said that the return of the quota reduces the burden of logistics expenses, thereby allowing him to maintain reasonable fruit prices for customers.

“Sometimes we take stocks from far away, so the petrol consumption is definitely high. Therefore the increase in the diesel quota at least provides relief to our working capital so that the selling price does not need to be raised,” he said.
