Sabah DAP open to cooperation for state election stability

KOTA KINABALU: No official discussion has taken place between Sabah DAP and any political party regarding cooperation for the state's 17th election, but it "adopts an open approach" to any political collaboration.

Sabah DAP chief Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said that he took note of the announcement made by Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin regarding the cooperation between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Sabah PH comprises DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Amanah, and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation.

"I would like to emphasise that, as of now, there has been no official discussion between Sabah DAP and any political party regarding electoral cooperation. Informal meetings between political figures are common.

"Nevertheless, Sabah DAP views this matter as being in line with the spirit of MADANI as practised by the Unity Government led by the Prime Minister, which has ensured political stability since the last General Election.

"DAP Sabah always adopts an open approach to any political cooperation with any party, as long as the interests of the people of Sabah remain the top priority," he said in a statement.

Phoong, who is also state Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship minister, said that the position of Sabah PH would be discussed in an upcoming leadership meeting.

He added that political cooperation must be based on policies that contribute to the development of Sabah, and not merely for the sake of facing an election.

"Therefore, Sabah DAP is prepared to discuss the necessary policies to be implemented for Sabah's future before finalising any form of political cooperation.

"Sabah DAP maintains the stance that political stability after PRN17 is crucial to ensuring investor confidence and continued progress in developing Sabah into a prosperous and successful state."
