PETALING JAYA: Preliminary checks showed that the 16-year-old girl who died in an attack by a fellow student at a Bandar Utama school today had sustained multiple stab wounds to the body.
Police have also arrested a 14-year-old boy, also a student from the school, over the incident.
Two edged weapons, believed to have been used in the murder, were found at the crime scene.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said the girl was found in the school toilet.
The incident, he said, was believed to have taken place at 9.10am.
"Preliminary checks showed that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the body.
"The actual number of injuries will be confirmed following a post-mortem examination at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) later today," he told reporters at the scene.
He said police also seized two edged weapons in the incident.
"A 14-year-old male student from the same school has been arrested in connection with the incident.
"We seized two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack.
"The motive for the murder is still under investigation," he said.
The New Straits Times had earlier reported that a fatal stabbing had taken place at a secondary school in Bandar Utama this morning.
Sources revealed that the victim was a female Form Four student at the school.
They added that she was stabbed with a sharp object, believed to be a knife, by a male Form Two student.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, had earlier confirmed the incident and described the case as "tragic"
