AI must be used prudently and with integrity: Brunei Sultan

By The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said that although the use of artificial intelligence (AI) has had a major impact on the way management is carried out in the education ecosystem, it must be used prudently and with integrity, and not as a substitute for effort and wisdom.

His Majesty said this in a titah Saturday (Oct 25) attending a Get-Together ceremony with students, citizens and residents of Brunei who are in Malaysia. The ceremony was held at Hyatt Regency, Kuala Lumpur. Accompanying His Majesty was Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

In addition to changes in the education ecosystem, His Majesty also expressed concern over the increasingly widespread negative influences such as drug abuse, electronic cigarettes or vaping, which have a negative impact on the students’ health, academic performance and reputation.

Bullying also needs to be prevented because it affects both the victim and the bully themselves. Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Brunei Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Romaizah Mohd Salleh; Acting High Commissioner of Brunei to Malaysia Mohd Aizul Hakim Datuk Seri Setia Suyoi and President of the Brunei Students’ Union in Malaysia Amal Afiqah Rusali.

His Majesty in the titah also highlighted the benefits gained by students through the opportunities provided while pursuing their studies abroad. While being independent, it is important to keep safe and avoid bad incidents.

Regarding success, His Majesty emphasised that the true success of a student lies in their ability to develop their potential, covering intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical aspects.

In this regard, His Majesty expressed pleasure that students continue to take the opportunity to participate in activities that enhance the skills needed by the country.

At the ceremony, His Majesty received a pesambah from the President of the Brunei Students’ Union in Malaysia and Vice President Shaikh Muhammad Rafi’uddin Hayat Shaikh Osman, as well as Designer of the Pesambah Elyana Erniza Lamit.

The ceremony began with the national anthem of Brunei Darussalam, followed with the recitation of verses from Al-Quran by Muhammad Firdaus bin Muhammad Salleh from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia, with the translation of the verses read by Muhammad Fawwaz bin Daud from KPJ Healthcare University.

Doa Selamat was recited by State Mufti Pehin Datuk Seri Maharaja Datuk Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz Juned.

The President of the Brunei Students Union, in a welcoming address, expressed appreciation to His Majesty’s government for the opportunities, facilities, support, as well as assistance rendered to students pursuing their studies in Malaysia.

The ceremony included a performance by the Brunei Students in Malaysia, which was also a memorable moment for the 1,082 students, citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam who attended because of the opportunity to meet His Majesty. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
