Selangor Red Giants advance to the MLBB M7 Knockout Stage

By Wasif Ahmed || Esports Insider

Selangor Red Giants has secured a major victory against M7 favourites Team Liquid PH, revitalising Malaysian fans’ dreams of a first M World Championship trophy.

Selangor Red Giants, the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 champion, has been in hot form since last year and has recorded an impressive 2025 campaign as well. Now, the team has booked its slot in the M7 Knockout Stage.

Selangor Red Giants Reverse Sweep Team Liquid

The best-of-three series did not start in Selangor Red Giants’ favour. Perhaps the biggest moment came when Selangor Red Giants’ John β€˜Innocentβ€˜ Banal got a Savage while playing on Sora. What made it more remarkable was that this was his first outing on the hero in the championship.

This was only the fourth Savage in the history of the M World Championships. However, it marked the first instance where a team went on to lose the game despite a player securing a Savage.

Despite the loss, Selangor Red Giants came back in Game 2. The team focused on map control, securing an early lead through effective farming, which it was able to snowball into a comparatively easy win.

However, the third do-or-die game was the highlight of the series. It stretched for 27 minutes as Selangor Red Giants took an early lead, but Team Liquid’s defence prevented it from ending the series. However, by the late game, Selangor Red Giants was able to take the victory.

This match also marked the end of a 10-match winning streak for Team Liquid PH.

Selangor Red Giants now joins Alter Ego as the first two teams to qualify for the M7 World Championship’s Knockout Stage.

Boostgate Esports Eliminated

Over at the other end of the standings, two underdog teams fought to remain in contention at the M7 World Championship. These were Cambodia’s CFU Gaming and Turkey’s Boostgate Esports. The latter qualified for M7 through the Wildcard Stage.

Despite its impressive qualification, Boostgate Esports concluded its unsuccessful Swiss Stage campaign by losing 2-0 to CFU. The team has exited the M7 without a single win in the Swiss Stage and joins DFYG as the first two teams to be knocked out.

Only six slots are now left for grabs in the Knockout Stage of the M7 World Championship, and 12 teams are still in contention. The tournament will now continue on January 15th, and fans can catch the action live on the MLBB esports YouTube channel.
