KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 β The Malaysian Meteorological Department today issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 10am.
In a post on its official Facebook page, Malaysian Meteorological Department said the affected areas are Perlis; Kedah involving Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu; Penang; and Perak covering Kerian as well as Larut, Matang and Selama.
The warning also covers Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan and Melaka.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
It added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no longer than six hours for each issuance.
The warning was issued at 7.50am today.
