Malaysians revive calls for a four-day work week on social media, citing better mental health, work-life balance, and productivity gains.
THE idea of a four-day work week has once again gained traction on social media, with many Malaysians expressing support for a work arrangement that prioritises better work-life balance and improved well-being.
In a recent Threads post, a user shared their view on the concept, asking: βI still believe that working four days a week and having three days off is the best setup for everyoneβs mental and physical health. How many of you agree?β
The post triggered lively discussion, with many users agreeing that a shorter work week could help reduce burnout, improve mental health, and allow employees to spend more time with family.
Supporters also said an additional day off would give workers more time to rest, pursue personal interests, handle errands and recharge before returning to work.
Some respondents argued that a four-day work week could even boost productivity, suggesting that better-rested employees tend to be more focused and efficient during working hours.
βThis year, many public holidays fall on Mondays or Fridays. It feels great to have a three-day weekend. When I return to work, I feel much more refreshed.
βOne day to clean the house. One day to take care of errands and other matters outside. And one day to simply rest and relax,β user silentdiary.sll wrote.
Another user, tash.alela, commented: βI agree! Three days off gives people enough time to reset and recharge both mentally and physically. It also helps maintain a healthier work-life balance. By the time we return to work, we feel more refreshed, productive and far less prone to burnout.β
