KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 βThe government will restructure foreign worker management in the country to ensure itβs more coordinated, efficient and aligned with industry needs, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said this was among the decisions reached at the special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers, which he chaired at Parliament yesterday.
According to Ahmad Zahid, the meeting reached several key decisions, including matters related to the membership and terms of reference of the Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers.
He said the meeting also agreed that the One Stop Centre for Foreign Worker Management would be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Human Resources.
βOur goal is to ensure the foreign worker management system becomes more efficient and upholds integrity, while balancing industry needs, national security and employment opportunities for Malaysians,β he said in a Facebook post today.
Ahmad Zahid said the government would also review foreign labour requirements more strategically, based on the actual needs of industries.
At the same time, he said the government remained committed to reducing reliance on foreign workers by increasing local workforce participation, strengthening the skilled workforce and accelerating the transition of industries towards automation.
He added that every measure taken by the government in managing foreign workers would continue to be guided by the interests of the nation and the peopleβs wellbeing. β Bernama
