BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be on a working visit to Brunei today and tomorrow to attend the 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC-27) between Malaysia and Brunei.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Datuk Mohd Aini Atan said this annual leaders’ consultation series serves as the highest-level bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Brunei.

He said that during the consultation, Anwar and the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, will evaluate the progress of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

“In the context of bilateral relations, Malaysia and Brunei indeed share a very close and special relationship that has been established since 1984. As close neighbours and Asean partners, both leaders will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

“A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on disaster management cooperation will be signed by the relevant ministers from Malaysia and Brunei,” he said in a press conference here yesterday.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

Mohd Aini said that in preparation for ALC-27, Mohamad Hasan will chair the 27th Malaysia-Brunei Exchange of Letters (EOL-27) Implementation Meeting on August 21 jointly with Brunei’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Mohd Yusof.

“The EOL meeting will monitor the progress of bilateral cooperation and discuss the outcomes of agreements reached by both leaders during the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation held in Putrajaya last year,” he said.

In 2025, total trade between Malaysia and Brunei was recorded at RM5.86 billion (US$1.37 billion).

Total exports to Brunei Darussalam in 2025 were valued at RM4.20 billion (US$0.98 billion), while total imports from Brunei were valued at RM1.66 billion (US$0.39 billion).

For the period January to June 2026, total trade between the two countries has reached RM2.38 billion (US$0.6 billion). — Bernama
