Saravanan arrives in court to face MACC Act charges

By Qirana Nabilla Mohd Rashidi

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan arrived at the Sessions Court here this morning to face charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The Tapah MP arrived at the court complex at about 8.20am.

Saravanan is expected to be charged under Section 16 of the MACC Act, which covers the corrupt solicitation, acceptance, giving, promising or offering of gratification.

The charges are believed to be linked to allegations concerning the recruitment of foreign workers during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022.

Saravanan, who is also MIC deputy president, yesterday maintained that he had never known or communicated with the individual whose allegations allegedly formed the basis of the case.

He said he was prepared to defend himself in court and that his lawyers would seek an expedited hearing.
