‘Who says I don’t have money?’: Fazley Yaakob dismisses claims he pursued Vida for her wealth

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Singer and celebrity chef Datuk Fazley Yaakob has dismissed claims that he pursued entrepreneur Datuk Seri Vida because of her wealth, saying his own family is financially comfortable.

Entertainment portal Gempak reported that Fazley described their relationship as bringing together two families with established business interests during an Anugerah Melodi Terhangat 2026 press conference in Bangsar yesterday.

“Who says I don’t have money? If people look at my family background, thank God, my family is financially comfortable,” he was quoted as saying in Malay.

“This union brings together two business empires, so, God willing, please wish us well,” he reportedly added.

Fazley said he had initially feared criticism from fellow entertainers, friends and his students, but claimed that 99 per cent of the responses had been encouraging.

He said people even messaged the pair after they went three days without holding a TikTok live broadcast, asking whether they had fallen out and urging him to take good care of Vida.

Vida, meanwhile, said she had reduced her social circle and was temporarily meeting only selected people after receiving various opinions about the relationship.

Addressing claims that Fazley was interested in her wealth, she said she regarded the allegations as a challenge to prove otherwise, before joking that he should instead be giving his assets to her.

Fazley previously confirmed that their relationship was genuine and had received his family’s blessing, although the pair had yet to announce any marriage plans.

Vida also said in July that they had held preliminary discussions about taking the relationship further but needed more time to get to know one another.

They reportedly became close after appearing in the second season of Astro reality programme Talk To My Manager with their respective children, Cik B and Fariedz.
