MELAKA: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has welcomed Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's statement expressing readiness to use the Barisan Nasional symbol in the Melaka election if cooperation is finalised.

He said the development was seen as an effort that could open wider avenues towards strengthening cooperation and Muslim unity ahead of the Melaka state polls.

"Alhamdulillah, we welcome this proposal and effort.

"They can try to block us using whatever power they have, but Allah responds with something far better," he said in a statement posted on his social media today.

Akmal, who is also Jasin Umno division chief, expressed hope that the development would catalyse and solidify unity among Muslims, particularly for the Melaka election.

"May this step further strengthen Muslim unity, and Melaka will be the witness," he said.

Earlier, Hadi was reported as saying that Pas was prepared to use the BN symbol in the Melaka election.

He said discussions regarding cooperation and symbol usage with BN were ongoing, adding that the party was open to using its own logo or BN's depending on the outcome of talks.

The development follows the suspension of Perikatan Nasional activities by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), sparking discussions on the symbol to be used in the state polls.

BN previously stated that matters regarding cooperation, seat allocation, and symbol usage would be finalised after discussions with relevant parties and presented to the Umno supreme council and BN supreme council.
