Police seek man linked to vandalism at mosque in Tumpat

By Bernama

KOTA BHARU: Police are identifying a man believed to be linked to the vandalism of the Al-Aziz Al-Hadi Mosque in Kota SPP Warisan, Tumpat, yesterday.

Tumpat police chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie said CCTV footage from the mosque showed a man believed to be connected to the incident, which occurred at 6.35 am.

He said police received a report from a member of the public, while initial checks found that the mosque’s glass door had been smashed and a foul-smelling, greenish-brown liquid poured onto the carpet in the prayer hall.

“The case is being investigated under Sections 295 and 427 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement last night.

Mohd Khairi said police were also investigating the motive and assessing the extent of the damage or losses incurred.

He urged the public not to speculate, make accusations or spread unverified information, and advised anyone with information to contact the Tumpat District Police Headquarters operations room at 09-725 6226.
