KUALA LUMPUR: The incident involving several teachers allegedly humiliating a primary school pupil in front of classmates, causing emotional distress to the child, is currently under investigation.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek expressed deep regret over the matter, particularly as footage of the incident has circulated widely, leaving a significant impact on the public.
She said the ministry would take full responsibility and is giving the issue its utmost attention.
"Teachers are constantly reminded of their integrity and ethics as civil servants, regardless of the situation at hand.
"I firmly believe there are safer and more private avenues to ensure that any discussion or issue can be resolved appropriately," she told reporters after the launch and symbolic hand-over of the Anti-Corruption Hero Comic Collection today.
The three-part comic collection is a strategic collaboration between the Malaysia Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Yesterday, a video went viral showing a primary school pupil being scolded by several teachers in the school canteen, where the child was allegedly forced to admit to something the child did not do.
The video was recorded and later handed over to the child's mother.
Fadhlina said she had already instructed Education director-general Datuk Azman Adnan to look into the matter as it concerns the integrity and ethics of teachers.
"The ministry has repeatedly reminded teachers who are also civil servants of the existing guidelines and the importance of upholding ethics and integrity, whether in the classroom, outside of it, or even on social media," she added.
