Soldier claims trial to assaulting woman driver in Senawang

SEREMBAN: A soldier pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court here today to a charge of asaulting a woman driver here at the end of last month.


The accused, Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar, 35, claimed trial when the charge was read to him before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

According to the charge, the accused had intentionally punched a 28-year-old woman in the head at Taman Satria, Senawang, at around 10.20pm on March 29.


As a result, the accused faces a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a penalty of up to one year in prison or a maximum fine of RM2,000.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal suggested that bail be set at RM2,000 with one surety and requested a mention date for further proceedings.


Chrysandy Lai, a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation representing the accused, requested a lower bail, as the accused supports two young children, his parents, and his wife.


The court granted bail at RM2,000 with one surety.


The case is scheduled for a mention on May 19 for the submission of documents and a full medical report.


Earlier, it was reported that a viral video showed a female driver being punched by a man in Senawang.

The incident was believed to have occurred after he became angry, claiming that his child had been knocked over by the driver of a Perodua Axia car while crossing the street.
