Customs must take strict action against agents, importers who violate regulations

By TV3 Bulletin
KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has recommended that the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) take strict action against importers and customs agents found to be violating the Customs Standing Order.
This is following the receipt of a complaint against the JKDM for allegedly not taking action to cancel the licenses of importers and customs agents who violated the Customs Standing Order.
The statement informed that the investigation was conducted based on a complaint received in accordance with subsection 27(4) of the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission Act 2009 (Act 700).
"The investigation found that there were weaknesses in the process of approving the Customs Declaration Form to release imported merchandise and that there were importers and customs agents who made declarations without complying with the existing Customs Standing Order."
"In this regard, EAIC decided to refer recommendations for improvements to the JKDM to increase control and compliance with the Customs Standing Order by importers and customs agents," the statement said, today.
