Malaysia Airlines monitoring airspace risks amid Middle East tensions

By Amalia Azmi

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines will make operational adjustments for Middle Eastern airspace, including rerouting or suspending flights, if the situation requires.

The airline said all flights were operating safely and subject to risk assessments amid tensions in the Middle East.

"The airline remains guided by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and other global aviation authorities to ensure the safety of airspace used in its operations.

"All flight routes are evaluated using real-time intelligence, global security reports, Notice to Airmen and continuous surveillance via the airline's Satcom-enabled flight monitoring system," it said in a statement today.

Earlier today, the Malaysian embassy in Doha confirmed that Qatar's airspace has been reopened and advised Malaysians to verify the latest status of their flights to ensure smooth travel.

Qatar temporarily closed its airspace after Iran launched a missile attack on the United States' Al Udeid air base near Doha.

The attack was in response to US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
