
Bus carrying 46 passengers crashed with two lorries, leaving two dead, 16 injured

BATU PAHAT: Two men died while 16 others were injured after the tour bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident with a tow truck and a tanker at KM80.7 of the PLUS highway southbound, here early Thursday morning (July 3).
The bus was carrying 46 passengers, consisting of 44 men and two women.
Sinar Harian reported that the operations commander from Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), senior fire officer (PBK II) Md Isa Masngun, said firefighters from Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng were mobilised to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 12.44am.
"When the teams arrived at the location, it was found that two male bus passengers aged 43 and 44 were trapped and were confirmed dead at the scene.
"14 male passengers, one female passenger and the bus driver were injured, while the rest, 27 male passengers and one female passenger, were not injured," he said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the 42-year-old tow truck driver and the 33-year-old tanker driver were also safe.
According to him, the fire department used specialised equipment to rescue the trapped victims, and all the injured were then transported to the hospital by Health Ministry ambulances, assisted by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
