SHAH ALAM: The Road Transport Department (RTD) received over 6,000 complaints from the public about errant motorists via the MyJPJ application during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri operations.
RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said a total of 6,687 complaints were received through the mobile application.
"Based on our checks, the highest number of complaints were for queue cutting, with 1,766 reports, followed by 1,625 complaints for misuse of emergency lanes.
"We also received 843 complaints for running red lights," he told reporters after closing the Hari Raya Aidilfitri special operations at the Kemuning Toll Plaza on Tuesday night. He said the number of complaints was encouraging, as it showed that mobile phone users were actively using the application to report errant motorists.
"Normally, we receive about 1,000 complaints per month, but during this operation alone, we received over 6,000. This is an overwhelming response," he said, adding that each complaint was investigated before further action was taken. He added that many of the complaints were accompanied by images or video footage linked to the reported offences.
"We reviewed these complaints, and once we determined that an offence had been committed, we issued notices to the drivers, requiring them to come to the RTD office to facilitate further investigations before compounds were issued.
"We would like to thank all road users who complied with traffic regulations throughout the Hari Raya Aidilfitri season.
"Motorists can continue to report traffic violations using the MyJPJ mobile application's e-Aduan@JPJ feature, or send their complaints via email to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my, along with complete details of the offence committed," he said.
