JOHOR BARU: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued more than 7,000 notices for various traffic offences during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

Director Azmil Zainal Adnan reported that the department inspected 23,715 vehicles in a special operation held between March 31 and April 8.

"Of the 7,592 offences recorded, 1,619 cases, or 22.6%, involved driving without licences.

"Meanwhile, 1,416 offences were related to using vehicles without valid road tax or with expired ones, and 1,036 involved not having insurance," he said in a statement.

Other violations included technical offences such as worn-out tyres, faulty brakes, and broken brake lights.

"The notices also covered offences such as queue-cutting, not using seat belts or helmets, and using mobile phones while driving."

Azmil added that 106 vehicles deemed unsafe for the road were seized during the operation
