PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry clarified that, contrary to social media reports, it has not received any reports of fatalities related to the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire.
The ministry, in a statement, said no reports had been received from public or private healthcare facilities.
"The ministry acknowledges several comments on social media concerning alleged deaths linked to the incident. However, we emphasise that no reports of such nature have been received from public or private healthcare facilities."
It added that a police report has been lodged and that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has been informed of the matter.
Strict action, it said, will be taken against irresponsible parties who spread false information and cause public alarm. Up to 12.30pm yesterday, 150 people have received treatment at hospitals and clinics following the incident.
Of these, 112 have been discharged, and 38 are receiving inpatient care β 17 at the Health Ministry facilities and 21 at private healthcare centres, with no new admissions recorded.
"A patient is still receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit in a private hospital, but the patient's condition is showing steady improvement," said the ministry. Of the 150 people affected, 127 sustained direct injuries such as burn wounds or other physical trauma.
"Eighteen others suffered indirect injuries, including anxiety attacks, panic attacks and high blood pressure episodes, and five did not require further treatment," the ministry said.
